Happy Halloween everyone! This year, Chris and I decided to dress up as two of the most influential people in the fashion industry. I chose to dress as Anna Wintour and Chris can be seen rocking a look similar to Michael Kors. We had a lot of fun recreating their looks and I hope you enjoy the photos!
Thanks for viewing our Halloween looks! Who or what are you dressing up as this year?
Hello, my classy followers! I am sharing a different kind of post with you today. Rather than styling clothing, I am showing you how to style an accent table as a part of my collaboration with Paddywax candles.
I was lucky enough to be able to be gifted this candle from their Kaleidoscope collection to show you how you can easily add a pop of color to your accent table. Enjoy the post and share with me and home decor tips you may have!
#1: Start with Personal Items
These items can be anything from a photo of a loved one or pet to a jewelry box from your mom or grandma. Having that personal touch really makes your accent table uniquely yours.
#2: Add a Scent
This Paddywax candle is in their salted grapefruit scent that I absolutely love. It is not too fruity, but it just adds a splash of scent to your room. Plus, finding a candle that is in gorgeous packaging really makes for a fresh statement.
#3: Add Some Greenery
To lighten up your room and table, I love adding some greenery. Whether it be a plant that I just purchased or flowers from my fiance, adding this outdoorsy touch incorporates a relaxing element.
#4: Choose the Right Table
When you have all of your pieces that you want to use to decorate a table, it is time to find the perfect one. I love my circular marble table, since it has gold detailing that really fits my aesthetic. If you like a more rustic look, then choose a wooden table or if you like a girly look, then choose one with stripes and a pop of color.
#5: Make it Yours
One thing that all of these tips have in common is that you have the freedom to have fun with your styling choices. That is what styling is all about: making a look, whether is be with clothing or home decor, uniquely your own!
Be sure to check out Paddywax candles from some gorgeous designs and beautiful scents!
As many of you know, Chris and I are in the beginning stages of planning our wedding, which has included me dress shopping! We have not picked out any of the "big things" yet, like venues, but we have little pieces that we have been picking up here and there to get off to a good start!
Throughout this post, I am going to share with you some of our favorite pieces we have picked up thus far. If anyone out there has any suggestions for places to shop for wedding decorations or to register, then leave those ideas in the comments below. I appreciate everyone's involvement and well wishes!
#1: Bridal Shirt
A must have for any new bride is a bridal shirt. Whether it be a tee or tank, a tee with a saying like "Bride" or "Fiance" or "From Ms. to Mrs." every bride should have one. It is a cute little nod to your exciting event coming up, as well as this exciting time in your life. Plus, you can style these tanks and tees so many ways, especially with leather jackets going into the fall!
#2: Wedding Planning Notebook
I have an obsession with anything related to stationary from cute pens to sticky notes to notebooks. However, whether you have a stationary obsession like me or not, it is crucial to have a notebook to write down all of your important dates, inspirational ideas, and to do lists. This notebook will be your wedding bible as you go throughout the process, even if you are in just the beginning stages like me. Style points for one that is white, says "Bride," or is an actual wedding planner!
#3: Advice Cards
Like I stated in the beginning, Chris and I have only started to plan, so we have not picked out a venue yet. So, we are just picking out little pieces here and there, such as these white and gold advice cards. I love these, since it is a great way to connect with your guests and to have a little memento for you and your significant other to take home and read through the next day.
#4: Card Holder
This adorable card holder is something that, again, connects you with your guests. It is a convenient way for guests to drop their car/gift off and then enjoy the party. Also, the saying on the holder is adorable and truly emulates the love that is present during a wedding! And, can you believe I found it at Jewel?!
Which item is your favorite that I have purchased so far? Also, if you are getting married or are married, where are places that you had luck at when shopping for wedding decor? Leave all of your thoughts in the comments below; I can't wait to read them!
Happy 4th of July, my classy followers! Also, Happy 2 years anniversary to my fiance, Chris! Today we have been together for 2 years and I am just so beyond lucky to be able to call him mine! He is my happiness, my best friend, and the love of my life!
I hope everyone enjoys this 4th of July and loves the outfits I styled for Chris and I below! Our looks complement one another through the very patriotic color scheme, as well as the more casual, but still dressed up vibe.
Have a stylish and safe 4th of July!
Happy Father's Day! I hope you all are able to spend some quality time with your dads today or if you are a dad, then enjoy your day!
I want to thank my own dad for all that he has done and continues to do for myself and my brother. He has always been incredibly supportive and encouraging of myself and my dreams. Constantly, my dad has been there through all that I have gone through in life, both the good, the bad, and the best. I thank him for being such an incredible role model and an inspiration! Happy Father's Day dad!
Happy Father's Day to every dad and family out there!
(P.S. If you are loving this dress as much as I am, then check back for a post featuring it!)
Father's Day is right around the corner! While we all wish we could buy our dads very lavish gifts to show him how much he means to us, college students, like myself, are on a tight budget. However, you can still find great gifts for dad that are under $50. Click through the slideshow below to see my 10 picks for fashionable and functional Father's Day gift ideas for any and every dad out there!
I chose all of these pieces because they are all unique and are such deals. Dads will appreciate anything you get them, since it is the thought that counts. Hopefully these ideas inspire you when you are searching for your dad's gift! My dad will be receiving the first gift of the college polo, which I am sure he will love.
Let me know in the comments below if you are going to purchase any of these items for your dad!
Too often, the media and even individuals we interact with on a daily basis project this "ideal" image of what a woman should look like, act like, and dress like. While so many times in the past I have bought into those unattainable standards, I finally realized it is okay to be confident with exactly who I am. There is no need to try and change all of the natural aspects of yourself to appease others. It took me awhile to get to the point that I am at now with self love and confidence, but I promise you that it is a great feeling once you get there. Getting to this point in your life is not the easiest, I, myself, had to go through a lot in life before I got to where I am today; however, here are a few tips to get you started:
1. Love Yourself
No matter what race, body shape, hair color, eye color, height, weight, etc. that you are, embrace all of those things about you. These things are what people see on the outside, but they do not define who you are on the inside. Everyone is absolutely beautiful and different for a reason. Learning to love yourself inside and out really is the first step in having self confidence. Being able to look in the mirror and see how beautiful your quirks are from scars to wrinkles to anything you may see as an imperfection is extremely important and empowering.
2. Wear What You Love
Clothing was something that helped me express who I was ever since I was in elementary school. Even in those times of my life when I was not super confident, I would choose pieces in my closet that made me feel good. Whether those pieces were when I was super girly and loved all things ruffled and pink or when I began to develop the edgier style I have now, I always chose to wear things that made me feel good. I was teased about dressing "too fashionable" when I was in high school because I didn't succumb to wearing "normal" clothes, since I didn't want to look like everyone else. So, even if you are teased for wearing things you like, take those comments and let them empower you instead of allowing them to rule you, since you can say that you are unique and set trends, rather than follow them.
3. Spend Time With Loved Ones
My mom has always been there for me and has helped me develop my self confidence. She has always been a huge supporter of my life and aspirations. I have always felt that I could go to her about anything and everything and she would always listen. In addition to my mom, my fiance is always there for me with anything in life and loves and supports me and my dreams unconditionally. Find that person or those people in your life and talk to them about anything that you are feeling. Allow yourself to open up to them and discuss why you may feel insecure. Having that open communication with someone you trust is extremely important in developing self confidence.
4. Remove All Toxic Relationships
Whether you are in a toxic romantic relationship or a toxic friendship, remove those from your life as much as you can. Don't let toxic people in, as they are just there to squash the confidence you are building in yourself. Those individuals want to tear that confidence down piece by piece. They do not want the best for you, but rather, want to control you and your life. Instead, find those people you can trust and that help lift you up, rather than push you down.
5. Embrace Exercise
This tip is not about losing weight by any means. Instead, this tip is here for your health and wellbeing mentally, physically, and emotionally. When I was in the process of trying to build up my confidence, I began to exercise moderately by jogging and lifting weights three times a week. After every workout session, I felt empowered, since I saw my body being able to run a little faster and to do one extra rep of weights. In addition, when working out, your body is filled with endorphins, which make your mind, body, and soul feel good. Exercising for health, rather than to look a certain way, really helped me build my confidence.
6. Find Your Passion and Stick with it
My passion, as you all know, is fashion. Fashion has always been a huge part of my life to the point that I am now making it my career. When I was in elementary school I learned to sew and sewed through middle school. Then, when I was in high school I discovered styling and blogging and continued to pursue fashion through those outlets. So, no matter what your passion, whether it be fashion, playing a sport, or a hobby, make sure you carve time out at least once a week to do something that involves that passion. Continuing to build on that passion makes you feel good and is something that you can turn to in moments that you are feeling insecure.
Developing self confidence is process and takes time. It truly is a process that is never finished, as once you have that confidence, you need to make sure to nurture it and build upon it. These tips are not the only things that you can do to have self confidence, but I do think that they are a good starting point. I hope that this post is able to help anyone that may need a confidence boost, as all of you classy followers out there are beautiful and amazing and deserve to feel exactly that way!
Hello to all of you, my classy followers! I shared my engagement photos with you all last fall, since Chris proposed to me that summer. However, I wanted to bring them back to the blog to share updated tips for taking your own engagement photos, since the spring and summer are great times to take them.
I love these images and my fiancé, Chris, was just such an amazing model, as always. What really makes these photos beautiful is the love between us that shines through. I hope you all enjoy the photos and find my five tips on how to prepare for your engagement photo session helpful!
My 5 Engagement Photo Tips:
1. Choose a Meaningful Venue.
The venue we chose was where Chris proposed to me back in July, which has been one of our favorite spots to go for a while now, so there was a deep meaning and love behind this place. Be sure to do the same and chose a meaningful place, whether it be where you were proposed to or another venue of key interest.
2. Save Money.
My mom, who is the most amazing photographer, shoots all of the images you see here on emilyehardt.com and she also took these photos. Find someone you know, whether it be a family member, friend, or even someone local that could give you a discount to take your pictures. As long as you have a decent camera, good lighting, and are patient, then your photos will be beautiful.
3. Complement Each Other.
As you and your love complement each other personality wise, so too should you complement each other outfit wise. Chris and I chose this turquoise hue to base our looks around, as we thought it went nicely with the venue. We decided not to match exactly, though, with the rest of our outfits, as we wanted the looks to still read modern. So, choose 1 color and keep the rest of your color palette neutral.
4. Timing is Everything.
Shoot your photos either early in the morning around 6am or in the evening around 6pm to get the best lighting. When it is super sunny, glares can happen; however, when you take the photos during these times, you get a much softer and romantic lighting. It is much more flattering and camera ready.
5. Have Fun!
These are your engagement photos, so make them your own! Every relationship is unique, so your engagement photos should be too! Chris and I had fun shooting a bunch of different poses and have some silly ones that we look at and say, "that's totally us!" That is the goal, to create lasting memories that you will cherish with your love eternally!
Happy Mother's Day my classy followers! I want to give a shout out to my beautiful mom and say Happy Mother's Day to her, as well! Thank you, mom, for all that you do and have done for me. You are my inspiration and my muse; I love you!
I hope you all have a wonderful Mother's Day and get to spend quality time with your mothers' and family. Enjoy the day and have fun styling your look, as my mom and I did below!
Hello my classy followers! With Mother's Day right around the corner, I wanted to share with you a post featuring different lessons that I have learned from my mom. As many of you already know, my mom is my photographer and my muse. My mom has always been here to support my fashion dreams and to inspire me to try new things. Here are 9 lessons that she has taught me about fashion and life, in general:
1. Always Go After Your Dreams.
When it comes to fashion, it has always been my passion. Ever since I was in elementary school I wanted to be in the fashion industry. My mom has been there since day one to support that dream by taking me to sewing classes, buying me fashion magazines, and teaching me how to put clothes together. Never once, has she said that I could not achieve all this dream, but has, instead, pushed me to dream even bigger. She has taken all of the photos you see on this site and is always happy to do it.
2. Do n't Worry About What Others Think.
While my mother has stressed that it is always important to be professional and worry about being a good student and employee, she has also stressed that it is okay to be yourself and that other people's opinions do not matter. She has taught me that self confidence is extremely important, as is being the truest version of yourself that you can be.
3. Heels Will Take You Places.
As a child, I would always look at my mom's heels and aspire to be able to wear them. Well, after maturing and seeing that we are 2 shoe sizes apart, I cannot literally wear her shoes, but I have developed a passion for heels, myself. My mom is always in some form of a wedge or heel and I always admired this and love wearing them myself. A good pair of heels is sure to make you memorable and will take you places.
4. Say Please & Thank You.
Sure, many parents instill this lesson with young children, but it is one that too many people do not carry into adulthood. My mom has always taught me that it is extremely important to be polite and thank everyone for their time, a gift, or even a compliment.
5. Never Settle.
Whether it be settling with a job, a man, or even a clothing item, my mom has always taught me that settling is something you should never do. She has always taught me to keep my standards high, while still knowing that not everything in life is exactly perfect.
6. Be Kind & Empathetic.
My mom is the kindest and most empathetic person I know. Whenever I see a person in need, I always think what would my mom do in this situation. She has a real knack for understanding people and helping them through anything and everything.
7. Eat Right & Exercise.
No matter if you are petite, plus size, or "regular" in size eating right and exercising are such important things to embrace. My mother is super fit and I wish that I could workout the way she does, but even though I am not an athlete, I still make sure to carve out time to exercise moderately and to eat my fruits and veggies. This lesson is one that I continue to embrace more and more as I get older, as exercise helps reduce my stress and makes me feel that much more confident.
8. Make Time for Family
Family is so important to my mom, as it is to me. I love being able to spend time with loved ones, but life can get hectic and there can only be so much one can fit into a day. However, I always make sure that I carve time out of my busy schedule to spend with the ones I love, as being able to get together and share memories is what life's all about.
9. Don't Merely Exist-Live Life.
Often times I find myself always imagining what's next, which can be a good attribute, but not if you aren't living in the moment, as well. My mom has always emphasized how important it is to live life to the fullest and to be present in every moment in life. She has taught me that just rushing through a moment, a day, or a week is not living, but rather, existing. Being present is so important with every aspect of life from a career to a relationship.
These are just a few lessons my mom has taught me, as she really has taught me so much in life. I cannot thank her enough for being the woman that she is and for teaching me so much about life and fashion. What are some of the lessons your mom has taught you? Be sure to let me know in the comments below!
